Former President Lech Wałęsa announced on Monday that he will not attend Karol Nawrocki's swearing-in ceremony as President of the Republic of Poland. "I refuse to participate in this scandalous spectacle," he wrote on social media.
Sejm Speaker Szymon Hołownia has convened the National Assembly for August 6, during which Karol Nawrocki will take the presidential oath. Hołownia's decision was published in the Monitor Polski on Saturday.
On Monday, Lech Wałęsa, who served as president of Poland from 1990 to 1995, posted a photo of an invitation to the August 6 ceremony on social media and announced that he would not attend the National Assembly session.
"I refuse to participate in this spectacle, which is, for me, scandalous. Lech Wałęsa," he wrote.
Wałęsa attended the swearing-in of President Andrzej Duda for his first term; however, he did not attend Duda's second swearing-in in 2020. (PAP)
